Eek! A Steek!
A photo essay (with a few words) by trillian42 (photography by, as usual, hubby)
Basting a line up the center, to keep track of where to cut:

Crocheting together the stitches:

A little liquid courage (Good stuff, too. Thanks to my friend Mary (of the yarn-ball cleavage) and her hubby for introducing me to it.)

Ta da! All ready to seam the shoulder and start the sleeve!

I did the same on the other sleeve, and now I can attack both sleeves at the same time (one pattern stripe on one sleeve, then the other, so that I can keep track)
Now to finish that Magner’s in celebration!

Oh my… my heart almost stopped!
It looks great so far! You are one brave soul!

You did a wonderful job – you took such care to protect it! I just ran a stitch up mine with my sewing machine and hacked away!!
Yours looks wonderful – I can’t wait to see the finished sweater.
And I’m sure the beer was the perfect reward.

Awesome pictures of the steeking. I like your crochet method to. I only did a steek one time and I just sewed it down with the sewing machine. I think next time I will try the crochet method.

Yay!!! Well done!

Scary! My next project is steeking. I’ll need a case of that Magner’s before cutting. Cider is my drink of choice….normally bars don’t have Woodpecker, but they have Magner’s. Mmmm. Is it sad that I’m craving it at 8:30 in the morning?

You know how much this scares me? My heart started beating fast just reading the photo essay! I can’t wait to see how you finish it off.

You make it look so easy! Good for you! Great idea to do the sleeves at the same time. Oh, that Magner’s looks really good, darn it..I’m on call!

WEEEEEEE!

Way to go! Isn’t it exciting to see the knitted blob turn into an actual sweater with arm holes?
February 2nd, 2008 at 10:51 am
SO BRAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
i could never do it – no matter the liquid encouragement!
Great work!

The crochet method looks so neat and tidy, and seemingly secure. Thanks for sharing your steek and your gorgeous sweater with us!

Congratulations!! I’ll be there someday…..just not too many calls for wool sweaters in Texas!

Wahey! Way to go. The sweater looks amazing — and I’m very impressed with how tidy you make the process look — even with Magners for courage!

*clink!* Raising a glass, because that definitely took some knitting balls! Good job!

You make it look so easy. Once I find the right project, I’m totally going to go for it. Of course, I may wait until I come visit before I can take the plunge. (The liquid courage just might be the cause of screwing up so I might need back-up.)
I can’t wait to see the progress. If you are up for it, show some pics of how you join in the yarn to make the sleeves. I’ll just bow down before your knitting greatness now.

Sweeet! And it looks great!

Eek is right! LOL, but you make it look sooooo easy!
Thanks so much for the pictures! I’m almost encouraged to try it myself
but I think I’ll be gathering up my courage for a few years still!

Woot – I’m so jello! I’m dying to steek – your piece is GORGEOUS and the photos are great. Congrats – can’t wait to see the finished sweater.
