My Sweater Has a Theme Song.
See, I was working on the Palette cardi backstage at the theatre the other night, and my friend Lizzy walked over to me. She took one look at it, and started singing: “I closed my eyes… Drew back the curtain…” For the non-theatre geeks among you, that would be “Any Dream Will Do” from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. And now it runs through my head every time I pick up the sweater to work on it.
I was telling Carrie and Maryanne and Carol about it, and we were trying to figure out if the sweater actually had all of the colors mentioned in the show. This also led to a question of if we could actually list off all of the colors. Sadly, although it’s been 13 years since I did the show, I still can: Red, yellow, green, brown, scarlet, black, ochre, peach, ruby, olive, violet, fawn, lilac, gold, chocolate, mauve, cream, crimson, silver, rose, azure, lemon, russet, grey, purple, white, pink, orange, and blue. And I’m pretty sure most of them are in fact represented in my sweater.
Anyway, that is why you may notice that it has been renamed in my Ravelry projects and therefore in the progress bars – my Amazing Technicolor Dreamsweater.
Speaking of, a couple of people asked what I was doing now that the steeks have been cut. I’ve started the sleeves:
Picked up through both loops of the outer steek stitch:

And got all the stitches for each sleeve onto a 32″ circular.

And the steek folds neatly to the inside of the sleeve opening – I’ll tack it down later, once the sleeves are done.

And I’ve gotten the first stripe done on each sleeve!

Oh, and remember Kris’s new toy? Check out what he bought the other day:

Is it sick that I read the headline for your post and my brain immediately sang the next line as: “It’s O-S-C-A-R” (the bologna oscar mayer jingle).
I’ve never seen Joseph but have always wanted to. I LOVE musicals! Fortunately, the Hubster enjoys them as well

That sweater is sickly sweet! You did such a good job on the steeking and whatnot. It just turns out so pretty and neat.

Oh it’s an addiction. Just wait until the walls of your house are covered with hanging guitars. My dad has bought so many in the last 5 years that I’ve lost count.
The sweater is looking awesome!

Thanks for the close-up shots of the sleeve progress–most helpful for those of us steeking newbies.
As for Kris, wow…that makes what 2 guitars in the space of one week. Hope he’s learning quickly.

Aha! So that’s why you knit those groups of lines, cut through them, then pick up! Thanks so much for turning the light on for me
Um..do you have headphones…not for you, for him, so you won’t have to hear..shhh..don’t tell him I told you that though…

“And Jacob went to Egypt – no longer feeling old
and Joseph when to meet him in his chariot of GOLD”
Oh man… that is hands down my favorite musical of ALL TIME and I might now need to make that sweater….. or not and just admire yours.
It’s beautiful, and it is amazing.

That is soo gorgeous! I am amazed and agog.

I’m amazed you have that many colours in there!

Since I have no knitting knowledge whatsoever, I can’t comment on the handiwork, but I can say that I love all the colors– make a statement when you walk in the door! And tell guitar man that we can’t wait to hear him play… either of his new toys!

The progress shots are amazing! I’ve always wondered how the sleeves/button bands were attached, and now I know!! Thank you sooo much for posting this!
I was in grade 7 when our school put on that musical for the school play, LOL, I had two parts (though not very big). One as an ishmalite (sp?), and the other as one of pharoah’s wives. Aaah, memories!

He’s already gotten an electric guitar? Wow. Just – wow.
The cardi is looking awesome!

Love the sweater, and I love the fact that it has a theme song. I never did that show but listened to the CD more times than anyone would care to count. You can put it on while you weave in all those ends…
But it’s looking beautiful. So worth the effort.

I am in awe of your talent!
My Mum was an avid knitter and made us some gorgeous things. She tried to pass on her skill to me but just as I’m not green fingered – I’m not wolley fingered either. I did make several Loooong scarves though.
I love that sweater, I’d wear it everywhere if it were mine.
Just though I’d say hello – hopped over from morninglight mama’s site.

I am so relieved to hear that I am not the only one with a never ending soundtrack running in my head! And that I am not the only one who remembers complicated song lyrics from more than ten years ago!
I knew we were kindred spirits!
Kiddo says hello – hasn’t had any new hair colors recently but she is still pondering the possibilites…
