What Pamela Means |
![]() You are influential and persuasive. You tend to have a lot of power over people.Generally, you use your powers for good. You excel at solving other people’s problems.Occasionally, you do get a little selfish and persuade people to do things that are only in your interest. You are usually the best at everything … you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic “Type A” personality. You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated. You master any and all skills easily. You don’t have to work hard for what you want. You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you’ll knock down anyone who gets in your way! You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together. You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow. You are light hearted and accepting. You don’t get worked up easily. Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is. |
What’s Your Name’s Hidden Meaning?

And I know that I haven’t posted any Yarn Pr0n in quite a while. My photographer has been less than inspired to do any yarn photoshoots, which means a dearth of pictures for me to post. I’m hoping that once we get back, I can tie him to his camera until I’ve got a good pile of pictures to post.
Happy weekend, everyone!
ETA: OK, so Bezzie busted me a bit on my own ability to take perfectly reasonable photos. I guess the other reason I haven’t really felt the YPF love is that there have been so many comments in various places (the Rav boards, other blogs, etc.) that YPF and Flash Your Stash and the Stash function on Ravelry are some sort of sanctioned bragging. I know there are people who stopped doing YPF because they “didn’t want to feel they HAD to buy new yarn every week”. Do people actually think that everything I’ve posted was purchased THAT week? Heck, the Stitches-Rhinebeck-SAFF swag kept me going for QUITE a while this past fall. And even before that, Kris used to dig into the stash and photograph stuff that I’ve had for ages.
Yes, I do know that I have a fairly sizeable stash. And I have no intention of apologizing for it. I like yarn – I love the color, the texture, the potential of it all. A lot of it has plans (which may or may not be vaguely related to my lifespan and available free time), and a lot of it doesn’t. Some of it may be posted this spring for sale here and on Ravelry (FYI, I’m aiming for April on that so that I can clear some physical and mental space before MDS&W), some of it might even just be gifted if I find the right person and the right reason.
I guess what I’m saying is that I’m tired of posting pictures of things that make me happy and wondering how many people are looking at those pictures and thinking that I’m some kind of materialistic twit. And yes, it’s possible that no one is thinking that, but until that little voice in my head shuts up, I may just skip YPF for a while yet.

Dude, those bracelet pictures were gorgeous–you need to try your own porn!! Ha ha, now who’s being confident, authoritative, and aggressive?!

My favorite line? “Generally, you use your powers for good.” Generally. heehee!
Good lord, it has NEVER, NEVER occurred to me that YPF and Rav stashes were a form of bragging! Who thinks like that? *shakes head* That frame of mind seems very sad to me.
Like I said in Cristi’s post the other day – screw the people who get all uppity about what people do and don’t post. It’s your blog, post what you want, when you want, how you want – and with all the pretty pictures we love.

But some of us like looking at yarn pron! Friday or any day.
Please share with us again…..

I totally agree with weez. I’ve read some of the hoo-ha on Rav about blogs and YPF and I have to say that I just don’t get what all the complaining is about. Sometimes I think people whine just for the sake of whining. I understand that most of us like that people read our blogs, and the goal should not be to turn readers away. But, when did blogging become only about pleasing the reader? I feel that if bloggers cannot post what they want when they want, then the blogging become less fun and more of a chore.
Personally, I love YPF. I don’t ever post pictures of my own stash, mostly because I’m lazy, but I love seeing other people’s yarn. There’s a lot of inspiration that hits me when I see pictures of yarn. And, it just makes me smile.

You know that I live vicariously through your yarn, don’t you?
I can’t get my own – so I love looking at what over people are getting – MOST ESPECIALLY you!!!
So tell those other people to come and bite my big round mommy ass and shut up!

I ran May and Illiane through that name thingydoodad and the results were pretty different but BOTH of them agreed in that I have a Type A personality.
Snot.

But I like looking at other people’s yarns. I like hearing about why they bought it. Whatever happened to “if you don’t like it, don’t read it”?
March 21st, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Sounds like there is a group of people that need to quit monitoring what otherd buy, photogrpah, and post and do something productive with their time instead. I like seeing others yarn photos and I love the stash function of Ravelry. I use it all the time to look up colors and alternate yarns but I’ve never used it as a measure of someone.

Bragging? *snort*
I like YPF, it usually introduces me to new yarn I never would have known existed otherwise. I always thought of it more as sharing knowledge.

What? Is there something in the water? First Cristi, now you?? I’d blame it on February, except that it’s March.
I’ma gonna give you the same ol softass bitch-slap I handed her … you’re just having a crisis of confidence. We all get them from time to time (some of us more, ahh, *cyclically* than others *blushes*). You write an entertaining, erudite and downright pretty-to-look-at blog. As you were, laydee. Just get on witcher bad self.

Wow, that thing pretty darn close on a lot of things — at least for me. For you, I’m not sure about trying hard not to rock the boat… Sometimes, rocking the boat is fun, particularly when you have a margarita in each hand!
March 22nd, 2008 at 11:10 am
Ditto etcgirl.
This is why I’m slowly becoming “UnRaveled.” All it’s turning into, frankly, is a place for people to bitch and moan about others and what they do, rather than a place to be at all productive. My $.02.
I liked YPF, mainly because it allowed me to live vicariously through other people’s stash. I liked the pictures. I liked that I was being shown stuff I might not otherwise considered. And that people were willing to show it to me.
It’s YOUR blog, sweetie. You post what YOU want to, and damn the rest of these people with too much time on their hands and too little ambition to do anything with it.
March 22nd, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Yes, it sounds like you
and psst..I’m a Type A too!
You know what a “certain” place is becoming a PIA! First Cristi, now you! Some people need to get a life and stop complaining or trying to make the rest of us feel bad that we have more than 2 skeins of yarn. We are not certainly bragging IMHO. I’ve become a better photographer of my yarn by trying new things. Heck, some of mine is 2 yrs old, some of it is a week old. I may be able to post pics of pr0n, but live vicariously through others knitting skills (heh, like yours!) Hugs! and you guys have a great time!
March 22nd, 2008 at 11:17 pm
What Haley said!
March 23rd, 2008 at 8:37 am
Yeah I’ve never understood the whole thing about people thinking that we’re buying yarn just to have something to post on Friday. Hell, I buy yarn because I want to. I take pr0nny pics of it because I want to. I post those pics on Friday because it was something fun to do and stretched my skills as a newbie photographer. Those people piss me off.
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:07 am
errr, I think you and Cristi need to stop reading the Rav forums. man people are giving way too much thought to stuff and what’s up with all the judgey judgey from people! I’m just saying! YPF is about pretty yarn, something all knitters should be able to appreciate without getting all pissy. I gotta be honest, I don’t want those pissy, bitter judgmental people reading my blog anyway. If I meant them in person I probably wouldn’t like them and I don’t want people I don’t like reading my blog and being my blog friends. So there. You can tell ‘em I said so too! LOL
March 23rd, 2008 at 10:51 am
I will tell you the same thing I told Cristi: “Don’t sweat the petty (people) and don’t pet the sweaty (people)”
When the hell did our society become a bunch of entitled whiners? I really just don’t get it!
That said, it is YOUR blog. If YOU don’t want to keep posting YPF, then don’t. If YOU want to keep posting it, then do it!
