Katydid Knits

In theory, it's all about the fiber – knitting, crocheting, sewing, and spinning – but really, it's all about my life.

Annie Modesitt is FABulous

Also, slightly insane.

I’ve never met anyone so genuine and funny and sweet and brilliant.  The class was completely awesome, and I’ve started work on my own Cocoon Twisted Float Shrug, which was the second half of the class.  The first half was learning combination knitting, which I LOVE.  There’s a good chance I’ll be using [...]

Yet Another Patio Update!

Remember the fence you couldn’t see in those pictures on Friday?
Ta da!

Yeah, we’ve got to put the tools away, but still. Progress!  And there will be grass seed there, so that the lawn just goes up to the fence.  I spend a lot of time pulling up the old weed block fabric, so it [...]

Amusing

I’ve seen this on a couple of blogs, so I thought I’d see where I ranked.

As a 1930s wife, I am

Take the test!

And now, back to being a lump.  I’ll get pictures a little later of the status of the backyard.

Porch Update, er, 4?

I haven’t been counting since the first one.
Anyway, this is where the porch stands now:

The space behind the lounge chairs (which are SO COMFY) is where the extra support thingys were poured. They are going under the hot tub that will be here in about two weeks. We’d been talking [...]

Lack-of-Progress Wednesday

So, the socks? Exactly where they were last week.
The spinning? Ditto.
The reason?

My damn wrist is acting up. I had some repetitive stress/overuse issues with it a few years ago, and got some braces (for both wrists, actually). Generally, if either one starts to bother me, I can sleep with the braces [...]

We Have Concrete!

They poured today!

There are more pictures in Flickr, of course. They are supposed to seal it tomorrow or Saturday. 24 hours later, we’ll have a fully usable patio!
Now, to tackle the REST of the backyard…

Porch Update 1

The concrete guys came today and dug out the space where the concrete will go, plus set up the forms. We are hoping they will be here tomorrow or Wednesday to pour (all depends on when they get the concrete from their supplier). If we are lucky, we might have a usable patio [...]

Handspun Monday

Yes, that’s right – I’m actually POSTING handspun on a Monday. Clearly, this is one of the signs of the apocalypse, so brace yourselves accordingly.
I have the finished skein of the green handspun that I showed you last week.

I am completely in love with this stuff. It’s bordering on obsessive.

I love the colors [...]

How I Spent My Saturday Morning

So, we decided recently that we wanted to rip out our old deck and replace it with a concrete patio. There were a couple of reasons for this, partly that the deck is too small to really do anything, and the dogs like to burrow underneath it and then come in all muddy and [...]
