Porch Update, er, 4?
I haven’t been counting since the first one.
Anyway, this is where the porch stands now:
The space behind the lounge chairs (which are SO COMFY) is where the extra support thingys were poured. They are going under the hot tub that will be here in about two weeks. We’d been talking about it for a while, and finally decided that with Kris’s back problems (which have gone on forever, and even required surgery a few years back) and work stress that it was worth the investment. Plus, really, hot tub!
We also tackled the side of the yard (this is behind my kitchen):
There was a lot of leaf buildup over there, and since we’ve moved the grills there, that’s something we wanted to get rid of. Dry leaves + hot grills… no thanks.
This is where the scary shed stood until my fabulous hubby tore it down. Any thoughts on what to do with an 8-foot-square concrete pad?
And this is the project for the weekend:
We are NOT gardeners, and as such, the plants that were along the fence have been a bit, erm, neglected.
And have big nasty weeds in and among them.
So, the plan is that by the end of the weekend, there will be nothing there but fence. We know we won’t keep up with them, so we’re taking them all out.
I’m way excited about this whole backyard thing. I’m hoping this means we’ll actually spend some time out there now!

You could always plant blackberry bushes there or something like that. They thrive on neglect. Plus – blackberries! It’s looking good though. And YAY HOTTUB!

The patio’s looking awesome! And a hot tub, yeeeehaw baby!
Oh, and that concrete pad – now that’s a Testicle Toss playing field if I ever saw one.

Oh man, you have such a huge and beautiful backyard. I’m so jealous. Look at all those gorgeous shady trees. Christi has an excellent idea there about the blackberry bushes. Hardy and very productive.

How’s about some type of gazebo covered seating area? Then people can sit in comfort during testicle toss tournaments!
Love how the yard is shaping up – tres chic!

Concrete patio = DJ booth for rockin parties and maybe a dance floor?

“Any thoughts on what to do with an 8-foot-square concrete pad?”
Two words: DYE STUDIO.

First, the porch looks really awesome.
Second, hot tub? Fantastic! I’d love to go that route, and the Hubster is starting to think I’m right. Now if we could just decide what we want to do reno-wise, we can start making progress in that direction!
Third, 8′ square concrete pad? Well, I’d be tempted to at least investigate some of the prefab sheds that can be pretty damn nice. Or maybe a gazebo? Don’t know what hobbies are in play beyond the fiber stuff, but gazebos can be pretty cool. Great job on the entire backyard!

I vote for a swing on the old shed base. Something like this (I’m sure you could build one or buy one from a local craftsperson for less):

I’m jealous of the hot tub!

Hot tub!! Hot dog! You guys will love that! First thing I thought of was a dye studio too, you know should you ever want to do that

The hot tub sounds wonderful….I like the gazebo and swing ideas…
Hey…How about a gazebo with a swing…It would be like the fancy box sits for testicle toss tournaments.

Hot tub!!!! How awesome! I’ll come over and lounge in the hot tub, while ZMrK will poke through that pile of logs next to where the shed was, looking for snakes.

I envision a flower-planting party
Looks terrific, chica!

What to do with the concrete platform? WHAT TO DO!?
DUUUUHHH-UUUHHHH…
GIANT water spouting statue of me. THAT’S what you do with that platform.
I’ll even pose and bring my own grapes and vines to wrap about my person. Coz I’m always thinking of you.
