WIP Wednesday and TdF Update
Yes, I have been spinning every day since I started the Tour de Fleece. I haven’t been taking pictures because, well, it doesn’t actually look all that different.
It’s really, really thin, and I know I’m going to ply it. I just haven’t decided if it’s going to be a 2- or 3-ply. What I’m hoping is that I can get it to a good weight and enough yardage to make a good-sized Tuscany shawl. I figure that’s an appropriate choice, since Amyknitty dyed the hankies and designed the pattern.
Mmmm… blurry silk closeup. (Obviously, I took this one, not Kris)
I’ve still got, erm, a bit to spin yet, though. About 87 grams worth. I started with 112 g (per Amy’s post. Glad she weighed it, since I never remembered to), so I’m around 1/3 of the way through. I have NO idea if I’m going to finish this up by the end of the TdF, but I really hope I can.
In knitting news, I’ve made a little more progress on the February Lady Sweater. I was hoping I might be able to have it done for EdFest next weekend, but I’m thinking that’s not going to happen. I’ve got 4″ of the lace pattern so far, and I’m aiming for 12″ once its done, including the bottom edging. So, it may still be going with me, just not as a completed project.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around how that flat hankie turns into that think little strand!

Er, THIN little strand. See, it hurt my head so much, I done and did a typo.

The February Lady is coming along nicely!! Keep at it (says the girl who slogged away forever and ever at the lace!).
Yay for spinning everyday too!

Nice spinning! I’ve never been able to make it through that many hankies so I’m very impressed.

Why all the markers on FL? I guess I could just look it up myself since I printed the pattern, but it’s hot and I’m lazy.
The spinning looks wonderful–I love that silvery purple!

Love the spinning too! I still am in awe how you get the hankie to the handspun!
FL is looking good!

FLS is looking good! I might as well drop out of the Tour. I was going to do it but didn’t bring my spindle and haven’t had a chance to spin at all since the start. Boo hiss. I’ll be a cheerleader I suppose. Go, silk hankies, go!

Red and purple, my favorite colors! Both the yarn and FLS look great.

Holy flurcking schnitt…that silk is beautiful, Pam. Seriously. I’m not easily impressed, but it looks sooo lovely.
Would you consider posting tutorial (brief…I have the attention span of a fruit fly) on how you spin silk handkerchiefs? Or send me an email on how you do it? This is really interesting stuff.
