Dilemma
Have you ever wanted something so badly for so long that when life finally reaches a point that you have the opportunity to pursue it, you aren’t entirely sure if you really want it, or if wanting it has just become habit at this point? And it’s something that is going to take a lot of effort, so you really shouldn’t be doing it if you aren’t sure, because it’s not just your life that is affected.
Yeah, it’s very confusing.

oh yes. I can’t remember the last time I felt that way I was wishing I was back in 1988 with my magic eight ball that solved all of my problems. hang in there…be kind to your head (and your desk!)
July 15th, 2008 at 9:16 am
*inserts pillow between desk and head*
There, now bang away.
If this is what I think it is, take a deep breath, step back, STOP THINKING ABOUT IT SO MUCH for a few days, then reconsider your options. There are worse things.
I say, go put some plastic dog doo in your hot tub and soak for a while. Or when I’m there, we’ll go hunt some ballerinas. There are too many of them anyway.
July 15th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Yup. We’re sort of going thru that right now too. Second guessing is the worst!!
July 15th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Yes. Child #2.
July 15th, 2008 at 10:12 am
I trust that it will all work out!
July 15th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Yup. That’s how I feel about wanting a house. We’re comfortable in our apt. I mean I would LOOOVE my own crafting room and I’m sure the kids would love a backyard, but how many people don’t grow up perfectly happy in apts? I lived in one all my life.
Then I see so many people losing their homes, and I hear horror stories about $8k needed for a boiler, etc. UGH!
I’ve decided that wanting that house HAS become a habit and that I’m probably better off just staying where I am.
I hope things work out for you!

I don’t have any real good advice; or even commiseration. Just wanted to offer hugs. For what it’s worth I think Yorkie has the right idea.
Especially about the pillow.
July 15th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Please use Yorkie’s pillow.
This happens to everyone at some point. Hang in there and we’re here to listen if you need us. (((HUG)))
July 15th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
I’m sending happy dilemma solving thoughts your way. I think it’s completely reasonable to second guess your decisions. After a while it’s hard to know if you truly want something or if you’re just used to wanting it.
I wish you the best.
July 15th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Second guessing sucks ass. No two ways about it. Use Yorkie’s pillow, take a step back like she suggested, and the right answer will come to you. I promise. (((((HUGS))))).
July 15th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Girl! We could have hours of discussion on this topic!
*big hugs*
I miss you bunches – call me. And no more headbanging without Yorkie’s softeee pillows :*
July 15th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Oh, of course. Did you by chance get to a point just before that where you had stopped wanting it because you figured it would never arrive anyway? Where you’d decided your life was just as OK without it as it would be with it?
Well, that’s why. When we let go and stop wanting, it usually arrives.
Best wishes to you in your dilemma. Just let go, and the answer will surface.
July 15th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Life, she always does this just when you think you’ve got things figured out! Discuss with someone you trust, make a pro and con list and then step back for a few days. When you’ve made the decision, either step back with no regrets or jump in with both feet. And then go wash the pillowcase, it’s got lip gloss on it. (I know, it looks so much easier written out like this than it is, but at the same time it is just as hard as it looks too.) Good luck figuring it out!
July 15th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I’m right there. I say go for it!
Go listen to Into the Woods “How do you know what you want ’till you get what you want and you see if you like it?”
July 15th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
2nd guessing what you’re meant to be? Is it what I think it’s about? Take some time for yourself and Kris to sit down and speak frankly about it. You’ll feel better, and the right answer will come out. I know it will. Call me if you need me.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Just adding to the hugs!
July 15th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Remember we are not in control of all things-although we like to think we are- what is right is what will be. Sometimes I really have take a deep breath and just put my trust where it belongs. I certainly don’t wear my religion on my sleeve but I do find immense comfort in Philippians 4:8- it just takes the edge off for me. Good luck- I will be thinking of you. Keep us posted.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Oh hell yeah.
Shoulda/coulda/woulda doesn’t cut it. It’s time for cold, logical thought. Ye Olde Pro and Con List.
And a pillow. I find I think better with a pillow.
July 15th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
So hard to be such a grown-up, worrying about consequences and what’s best…it was so much easier when we were young and thought we had it all figured out. Take a deep breath, and we’ll drink & talk it through at EdFest (if it can wait that long). If all else fails, you do know what you want, just listen to that voice.
{big hugs}

I see you give all kind of good solid advice to others. You seem very grounded & practical. You seem to joy in creativity, in spontaneity and in some very straightforward and simple things. THis is an amazing blend, you know.
Take some deep breaths, consider all the good advice, and give yourself the time you need to find what you’ll do.
I imagine that whatever you do, you’ll rise to meet what comes.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
I can’t say anymore than what you’ve read above. Please use the pillow and know I’m sending lots of ((hugs)) your way!
July 15th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
no, you can’t have a pony!
July 15th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
I say that it’s a long road to travel, and you can start heading down it to see if it truly is the route you want to take. If you discover along the way that it’s not, you can always drive off one of the side roads, no harm, no foul.
Did that even make sense? You know my number if you need to talk!
July 16th, 2008 at 1:01 am
wow.
that is such a power packed little post you had there. and i have to say yes i understand this one. actually, your words here are making me reflect a bunch too.
wish i were there to stay up all night with you to discuss pros and cons and work through it with you. im here and a bouncing board if you need it.
it’s the process… the process of becoming. expanding to allow the things in to become the person that we want to become. struggles and all. the positives that come along with the negatives… all of it through the process of expansion. choices… and the ego holding into these ideas of who we are, which may be the struggling to achieve what we want as what we define ourselves as… or the actual doing that what we desire. it’s all very interesting. in the end you’ll look back and see how utterly perfect it all was… every single moment, every choice, every every.
(I’ve been sipping on the red… can you tell?)
no matter what path you do choose… you’re a pretty terrific person. and… i love you!
July 16th, 2008 at 2:37 am
Big hugs!! Follow your heart…your head will catch up, I think that’s how its supposed to work at least
And when it doubt, keep Yorkie’s pillow near by!
July 16th, 2008 at 6:07 am
*replaces pillow that has now been pounded flat*
Right…just give us a shout when ye need a new one, lovey…
As for this one…well…I think it might make a lovely doorstop or something…
*holds pillow out at arm’s length and carefully moves away*
July 16th, 2008 at 7:20 am
Hugs…Listen to your heart and talk to Chris…and I am sending you hugs from NC…
July 16th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Ouch. Everyone else has already said everything I would say.
*hugs*
(And to answer your question, yes, I have.)
July 16th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Yes. Totally.
Lots of thinking and talking and chocolate.
*hug* I hope your answer comes easily and with no more head pounding.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:47 am
I wish I could think of something profound and wise to type that would help – but I can’t.
I hope you find the answer/s you need soon and happily.
