Craaaaaap
Just got a phone call from our bank. Someone got my debit card number and ran up about $800-900 in charges today. So, now I have to run over there tomorrow and sign the forms to get things started. Wish me luck that this goes quickly, since it also means that my debit card has been cancelled and I have to wait for a new one to arrive in the mail.

oh that sucks most horribly. =( but yeah, good that the bank caught it so you can take care of it.

its so easy to dup and use debit cards..
I passed.. sure checks are not always accepted, and some times i end up paying $1.50 or $3.00 to use an ATM (very infrequently!) but its so much better than the inconvenience of debit card fraud.
(and you are dependent on the banks mercy. Unlike credit cards, (and laws about credit, and credit fraud) banks get to make up their own rules on debit card fraud–and how to handle and re-emburse
and i don’t have much confidence in bank mercy!
good luck–buy a bottle of aspirin–you’ll need them for all the headaches you’ll be suffering for the next few weeks.

OMG! I hope the bank isn’t holding you responsible for those charges!
I’ll just crank up the Evil-Vibe-O-Meter and make the thief’s thingy fall off. Unless it’s a girl, in which case, she’ll have her period every day for the next 12 months.

Oh Crap. We have had that happen more than once and it is a pain in the ass every time. I hope you are able to take care of it quickly.

Aw hon; I’m sorry. Good luck with the bank tomorrow.

What a relief that the thieves spent less than you would have today!
Love ya!

Blurgh!!!! That is SUCH a pain in the ass. It’s happened to me twice in about four years, and it’s the sux0rs every time. But hopefully you have a friendly good bank that helps you out and makes it easy for you – blessedly mine was very forgiving and helped me with all the paperwork and stuff. Good luck!

That bites!! Wishing you good luck with the bank!

That blows!
Super good luck for a speedy, positive resolve with the bank!

Oh honey…I have absolutely been there, when some butthole got ahold of my debit card number and drained my account of $5k (since our tax return was in there)…yeah, we ended up eventually getting it all back, but it was a headache for sure. Not only that, but it made me feel so violated and exposed, I’m still very leery of certain things specifically because of the experience. I hope it all works out ok!!!

This happened to my daughter. And they tracked back the charges to Barnes and Noble. The back refunded her money the next day. Over $300.00 in online computer games. I hope your situation works out as well and as quickly

OMG @s$holes! Get ‘em! Eff ‘em up!! This makes me so angry that I want to spit and break things…wtf, why can’t people get a life and earn $ the honest, old fashioned way? This happened to me when I worked in VA – I got pinched for about $1600 – the cop taking my statement had to keep me from breaking my desk. good news? Bank was able to get my acct. credited within 2 days.
Good luck sweety – waiting is the hardest thing to do.
*hugs*

Urgh. Glad it got caught quickly and they notified you right away. I had to catch charges on my statement, CLEARLY not mine (something in France…I’ve never left the country, nor ordered anything from France), and then it took over a month to get that $$ back.

Ouch! That happened to me last year. Someone racked up $2800.00 in charges to AnnTaylorLoft.com right around Christmas. My card was a Debit card or Check card. Lots of paperwork, but my bank covered everything. Good luck. Things like this really suck. Leaves you feeling violated, and angry.

Srsly? My bank just calls, confirms, and sends me a new debit card. No paper-signing nonsense. About every three years somebody gets hold of my debit card number and starts making thousand-dollar purchases on websites I’ve never heard of. I’ve always been pleased with how quickly my bank catches it and how easy it is to deal with.
Good luck with yours!

That sucks, I’m so sorry, but really glad that your bank seems to be on top of things! Hope it will be straightened out quickly and painlessly.

That seriously eats poo. It is kind of scary how easily it can happen, too. Hope it gets resolved soon, so your debit card can get back to its noble pursuits of buying yarn and fiber.

Ohhh, that is le sucke. Here’s to low-stress resolution and a raging rash for the thief.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Oh that sucks! I’m glad the bank caught it early. I hope it doesn’t take too long to get the money back in the account.

Ah man! That sucks! I’m sorry. At least the bank called you.. but… still. suckage.
