Finish or Frog It
Just saw this post over on Insaknitty’s blog, and I’m joining in. I think it’s a brilliant idea.

2009 is going to be the Year of Decisions. I’m tired of my WIP pile getting out of control. I often lose interest in a project or fall out of love with it. Sometimes it was just not the right project and I leave it thinking it’s a shame to frog it. But no more. This year, I challenge all of you to join me in the Finish or Frog It 2009 campaign. Here are the rules. They’re pretty simple.
- On Friday, take a moment to evaluate your knitting projects.
- Decide if you can either finish something or frog it.
- If you finish a project, post a picture on your with the Finishing Friday button below. If you have a blog – link to this group so others will know about the Knitalong. If you don’t have a blog, add the FO to the projects section.
- Tell us how it feels to have finally finished this project and let us know how long it’s been on your UFO or WIP list.
- If you frog a project, and you have a blog, post a picture with the Frogging Friday button below. Link to this group so others will know about the Knitalong. Post a picture to the projects section and be sure to select “Frogged” as its current status. Maybe you’ll even put a picture of the frogged yarn in the your stash and share it with the group. Will you wash it? Will you dry it?
- Tell us when you started it. Tell us why you fell out of love with it. Tell us how you plan to re-purpose the yarn.
- I have officially started this Ravelry Group called Finish or Frog It. Post your pictures here, add a comment to the appropriate discussion thread (Finish or Frog) or email me or leave a comment with a link to your post so I can keep track of whose finished and whose frogged what. PS – for those not on ravelry – they can also email me at majorknitter at yahoo dot com or comment on my blog www.majorknitter.typepad.com.
- I’ll have a monthly prize give away for the random Finished O and the Frogged O.
- There is no requirement to either finish or frog an item every single Friday. Friday is simply a benchmark to remind you to reflect. Go at your own pace. Once a week; once a month; once a quarter or even once a year. Use Friday as your incentive or reality check.

So, since I’ve been photographing and documenting the ENTIRE stash in Ravelry lately, the projects are next on the list. I think this is a great way to keep me honest. By next Friday, I want to have my full list of WIP’s documented, and I’ll list them here, along with the ones that I am absolutely frogging.

Such a pretty scrabble set!!!
Call me nuts but that mitten I posted today? That’s the only WIP. I’m a three-wip-at-a-time kinda girl. It also helps that I’m too cheap to buy multiple amounts of needles in the same size. That really limits my castonitis.

I’m all for more organization. I think I have only one UFO. All my yarn, books, etc is still unpacked. I am going to use your spreadsheet to give me a boost up on my yarn inventory. I will be uploading it to Ravelry as soon as I am done, but I am also keeping a file here at home just in case I cannot access or don’t want to access Rav in future.
You know, I just looked up your stash on Rav and I am newly enlightened to SABLE possibilities. I thought my little 16 office moving boxes full of yarn was a problematic organizational situation. I had no clue. Yours may very well be the biggest stash I have seen on Rav yet. I think we should get you a tiara as you are indeed the Queen of Yarn! I bow to you.

I only have 2 languishing WIPs and I already know they won’t ever get finished, I just can’t bring myself to frog them yet. (plus I don’t even know where one of them is)

The only project I have left on the needles? The Lotus Blossom Tank – and that is only Hibernating bc I can’t bring myself to knit a tank top in the dead of winter. As soon as March hits, I’m back to it.
All the others? Gone!
I can’t believe it. I’ve been basking in the glow since I called it a day on the Chevron Scarf…Cowl…Whatever. It feels GOOD.
So, while I can’t participate – I support Finish or Frog it! It feels SO GOOD to be stagnating WIP free!

I like this idea. Although, do we HAVE to link to the group and follow all those rules? Can’t I just borrow the buttons?? LOL

Yeah after reading this, I think i’ll be frogging the Pi Shawl that’s been lingering in my basket next to my chair. I haven’t touched it since, uh, June?

I’m with you on this one! Just last night I had a project out that’s 2/3s done but has been on the needles since TWO!! Christmases ago. My sister agreed. Frog it.

Awesome sauce! This is pretty much what I’m planning to do in tandem with Operation Stashbuster 2009. Well, to be fair, probably more with the frogging than with the finishing. But still. Can’t wait to see your progress!
