Wicked (Take 2)
Not sure what was going on with that post earlier – I sent it from my phone, and it should have worked like it always has, but it went all screwy.
Anyway, the below is what you SHOULD have seen.
Last night was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. Kris and I are in Williamsburg with my friend Becky and her husband Steve, and last night night we went to see the tour of the musical “Wicked”.
I was completely blown away.
Keep on mind, I’ve watched “The Wizard of Oz” more times than I can count; I collect Oz memorabilia; I’ve read the book “Wicked” several times, and I have had the cd of “Wicked” memorized since not long after it came out.
This is a show I was looking forward to, to put it mildly.
I have seen a lot of shows in my life, from high school shows to Broadway productions. I have never, EVER been as affected as I was by “Wicked” last night. From the opening moments of the overture and the movements of the Time Dragon to the last notes of the curtain call, it grabbed me and would. Not. Let. Go. I was completely enthralled by every moment. When it ended, I was actually shaking a little from all of the emotion. If I could see it again today, tomorrow, every day, I’d do it in a heartbeat. And I’m pretty sure Kris, Becky, and Steve would be right there with me.
Oh, and Amanda? I have a New Plan. I think you know what I’m referring to – we’ll talk.

Do I need to read this book? It’s one I’ve never picked up.
I’m glad you had a great time! I love the shirts – I suppose they have to do with the book/play?

I’m glad you liked it! I think I’m going to head north and see it NYC so that’ll make for a pleasant adventure. I’ve heard very good reviews.

So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I’ve seen it twice in San Francisco–when it returned a several months ago, they lit the City Hall in green lights.

That’s quite an endorsement. I have to say, I’ve read the book and did not see what the fuss was about, it was all a bit disturbing to me. Does the music tell the story better than the book?

As I tweeted earlier, Chris and I saw this show in Los Angeles at the Pantages a few years ago. It was “OK” at best. The woman playing Elpheba dumped the high note at the end of Defying Gravity, and the show was, at best, enjoyable.
We saw the touring cast in Pittsburgh last fall and it was a completely different experience. The whole show was fantastic, the second act made me cry. I thought it was wonderful. Glad you had that second experience first!
To rebel, seeing the show the first time prompted me to read the book. It was fine, I didn’t love it. I do love this show.

I didn’t get a chance to see it when they were in Charlotte. I so wish I could have. I loved the book.

oh, awesome! I so it last fall when the tour was here and loved it too! (aside from my knees being jammed into the seat in front of me. I need to remember not to get balcony seats at that theater.) damn, now I want to see it again.

I haven’t read the book or seen the musical, but this is one of my and Willow’s favourite CDs to sing along to.

The book is much different than the show – both in tone and parts of the story. I really like it though.
