So, remember that hat I posted about on Wednesday? That I was hoping to finish in time to take to Vegas at the end of the month? Yeah. I finished it on Friday. (Thanks to Kris for modeling)

I’m calling it the “I Hardly Know Her” Hat. It’s in honor of our good friend Ed (for those of you who have heard me mention EdFest, yes, that’s him), who is physically incapable of restraining himself from responding “Poke her? I hardly know her!” whenever anyone mentions poker. We love Ed.

Its shape is inspired by both the We Call Them Pirates hat and the Red Light Special hat. The design is based on the four suits in a standard deck of playing cards.

The hat is made of Knit Picks Telemark in “Squirrel Heather”, “Garnet Heather”, and “Charcoal Heather”, with a lining in KP Risata in “Ash”.

I’m working on writing up the pattern, and I should have it up in the next couple of days, depending on when Kris can get some better pics than these quick and dirty ones.

So, this week’s WIP is a little, erm, less than “in progress” as of yet.

You see there Knit Picks Telemark in “Garnet Heather”, “Charcoal Heather”, and “Squirrel Heather”, topped by Knit Picks Risata in “Ash”. The reason it isn’t in progress just yet? I haven’t designed the project.

See, a while back my dad asked me for a hat shaped like my brother’s (the “We Call Them Pirates” one), but in a different pattern. Since he wants to wear it when they play poker (And no, I don’t know why…), I decided to make it a poker themed design. So, I’ll be playing with some charting, and hope to get something together so I can cast on tonight or tomorrow. And yes, if it comes out well, I’ll be putting the pattern up.

Of course, since I’ll be seeing them at the end of this month, I have something of a deadline to work under.

Oh? That other WIP? Yeah, I can’t post about that one today. See, it doesn’t fit the rules of WIP Wednesday because it’s NO LONGER IN PROGRESS! That’s right, it’s DONE! I decided to go with the buttons after all, and am going to begin the search for them at JoAnn this afternoon. Thank you all for suggesting Etsy for buttons – I can’t believe I didn’t think of that! I’ll be checking there if I don’t find anything at JoAnn. And if that doesn’t do it, I may have to acquiesce to being kidnapped to G Street.

So, tune in tomorrow for the finished project shots of the cardigan!

Okay, I can’t believe this, but I finished Kris’s pirate socks in one week! Why is this so amazing? Because there is something special at the top of the socks: Check it out – that’s Fair Isle.

Okay, I can’t believe this, but I finished Kris’s pirate socks in one week! Why is this so amazing? Because there is something special at the top of the socks:
Check it out – that’s Fair Isle. (Okay, okay – technically it’s stranded colorwork) But the point is – I did it! I made it work! And there is enough give that he can get them over his heels!

And check out the detail on the skull! (Guess who found the macro function on her camera!).

One last shot – actually on hubby’s feet:
And now I just have to decide what I am going to make with my new Socks That Rock. The pattern that came with the mailing is cute, but not really me, so I’m debating what to do instead. At this point, I’m considering Broadripple, Crusoe, Falling Leaves, and Pomatomus.

Speaking of cameras, hubby finally broke down and bought a digital SLR last night. He’s been talking about it for several years, but watching Kir’s husband Lionel using his last Friday at Kennywood*, he just couldn’t stand it any longer. So, he bought a Nikon D70S, which even I can tell is a lovely piece of machinery. He’s going to be playing with it for a while. He might even do a little yarnography to try a few things. =) Once he’s got some stuff posted, I’ll put up some links.

*Regarding Kennywood – we had an amazing (although decidedly damp) day, and we have a bunch of pictures. At the moment, though, they are on Kris’s laptop and I haven’t had a chance to upload them. I will – I promise.
