Katydid Knits

In theory, it's all about the fiber – knitting, crocheting, sewing, and spinning – but really, it's all about my life.

It’s Olga’s Fault

And I’m sticking to that.  After I stopped to see her on Friday, she told me that I really needed to check out the new shop Fibre Space, just a couple of blocks away.  I had some time, so I decided what the hell.  I walked over, and entered the door of a really lovely [...]

All Done!

I skeined up the merino-silk yesterday.

Ended up with just under the 8oz. I started with – looks like I only lost maybe 1/8oz to “whoops”es, which is nice!

Gave it a nice bath, and then let it lie in the sun for a bit to dry.

I’ve got about 179 yards, and it seems to be averaging [...]

How Cool Is This?

So, last spring, I did some test-crocheting for my friend Mary Beth Temple.  I was working on squares for a booklet she had written, to be published by Leisure Arts.  Fast forward to about a month ago, and MBT blogged that her book was out.  My (signed!) copy arrived while I was in Omaha.

See that [...]

Spinning Survey

Well, more like an opinion poll, really.  I finished spinning up that merino-silk that you saw a few days ago (erm… ok, more like almost two weeks).  So, I have two nicely full bobbins.

I just can’t decide what to do from here.  I can leave it as a VERY fine singles, but I think it’s [...]

A Full Bobbin!

I’ve spun at least a little every day since Saturday, and I’ve got my first bobbin full of the green merino-silk.

And, um, still a basketfull left to go.

I played with it a little, and if I don’t end up with three bobbins to ply, I’m going to Navajo-ply it, because it’s really nice [...]

Zaphod’s Home!

Not that most of you knew he was gone…
At MD Sheep and Wool this year, I asked the amazingly awesome Dave over at the Merlin Tree about converting my HitchHiker wheel to his new double-treadle design.  On Sunday (of the festival – not this past Sunday), I dropped Zaphod off with Dave, and last Tuesday, [...]

Mittenses!

OK, technically, mitten.  Ok, technically only HALF a mitten.  But look how cute!
Dragonflies on the back of the hand:

Flowers on the palm side, which will become stripes above the thumb (the white crochet thread is waste yarn for the thumb.

I’m using some Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Solids I picked up from DBNY eons ago.  The [...]

It’s Done!

No, not the sweater.  Carmelo’s still got about 6 inches of sleeve left to go.  I finished up the handspun I showed you the other day!

Closeup:

Isn’t it purty?  It’s very soft, too.  And I think it’s fairly well balanced!  Yay!  It’s drying now after a nice soak in Kookaburra.  There are still some uneven spots, [...]

Checking in

You know, it’s amazing what you can get done when you actually sit down and do it.  During rehearsal Friday night, I bound off the front edge of the first half of Carmelo.  After a weekend of trying to stay out of Kris’s way while he was working on NaNoWriMo (still going!), I am here:

That’s [...]

Don’t Fall Off Your Chairs

Yes, I’m posting handspun on Handspun Monday again. Welcome to update #2 on the Tour de Fleece. I’ve finished up my first bobbin of the silk hankies, and I plied it last night – only my second attempt at Navajo plying, and I think it went pretty darn well. [...]
